Macomb Library Comic Con 2022

Ok, ok, so I missed setting up a table at the Macomb Library Comic Con, however, I’m still went to make connections and experience it as a fan… There was some great stuff, First of all there were some great deals. Also having the con in a library where it’s easy to go sit down and immediately read what you bought on a nice comfy chair works brilliantly.

I met Matt Feazell who makes 50 cent comics. One of his comics is called The Amazing Cynical Man. There was limited table space for the artist alley but the artists that were still making sales. Lot of kids where there.

To me the smaller cons are where it’s at for deals and making connections because It’s less busy and you can have lengthier conversations when talking to the artists or other fans.

It was a two story building so if they wanted to they could had more on the top floor. One guy had a gaming table up there.

Also, I liked the lecture halls/rooms. There were at least 2-3 dedicated to talks and small lectures for PowerPoint presentations. They could’ve made this a 2 day event easily with different artists the next day. They had one on if Wolverine is overrated or not. The presenter went over his history and what warrants it. I argued that his reputation as a popular character is not without merit but any character can get overrated as a consequence of being an interesting character.

Outside they had food trucks, one for grilled cheese and the other for mini donuts. So yeah there was lots of room outside as well for more comic-book/pop culture things. There was a used book tent where I bought a Near mint condition hard cover fantasy art book for only $2.50! It was an utterly fantastic deal!

So yeah, I’d say that it’s a great little local con and it’s too bad it’s only once a year but now I know I can try to get a table there for next year and sell Rage 1-5? Let’s hope so.

Cool balloons...this is in the main lobby..

They had Tobin's Spirit Guide on the table, I wish they were selling it.

Buying the first batch. Pulling the trigger.

Well I’ve been working on some YouTube vids and I decided to start drawing Dr. Strange. It’s a good challenge for me because I’ve never drawn him before. I decided to keep it simple and draw the Benedict Cumberbatch version, just the close up.

You can find the first video here:

You see I’m tripling down on becoming and independent artist. When I say artist I mean it in a broader sense of the term because I’m a illustrator, writer, filmmaker and painter. So it can cover a lot.

Also, I’m gearing up to buy my first batch of Rage #4 soon and get it ready for my first show post pandemic which is awesome to get back out there again. Looking at doing at least 2 local shows this year. I like doing the small local shows because they seem the most pure and intimate. These shows are still about comics and people interested in meeting new and familiar artists.

Looking at doing the Great Lakes Comic Con and The CMPL Comic Con this year I just have to take the time to buy a table. I had a great time going to the Great Lakes Comic Con a couple of years back. Looking forward at going back.

Searching for an Art Studio

Just have maybe one more change to the pages before the release. I’ve been thinking of ways to find a new studio. Not sure if I’m going to use Kickstarter, Indiegogo or something to that effect. I’m considering putting out an ad and renting some kind of studio space if the price is right. Putting out a Craigslist would help since I want to find a local studio, also I might put the word out on Facebook. I even thought about buying or renting an RV.

In the meantime, I can’t let not having an official ‘studio’ get in the way of coming up with a good story now. I’ll let you know how that goes in the coming months. I’ll let you into my story developing process. Also, comic-cons are opening back up so I've been looking at buying a table soon for the Great Lakes Comic Con. Weird changing from everything being locked down to things opening back up again. Thankful, but it's like coming out of hibernation.
